We decided to put a new deck in to the rear garden, this is the first major job we are doing on the house.
The garden is split level, so in the end we decided to step the deck and then put a pergola that we could grow stuff on over the lower part of the deck, this came in handy as we decided to do this before we put the vegetable garden in but now we can grow Melons and stuff up the back of the deck. The main reason for the split is anything that has a 1m high drop or more needs planning so by doing this we kept the lower deck just under a meter high.
We cut down a plum tree to do this but as we had two in the garden we did not mind losing the plum tree.
We built the deck to local building reg’s so that it would last and also pass any inspection if we decided to sell.
